Breakfast is recognised as the most important meal of the day and this bowl of superfood porridge is a perfect way to break the fast.
The walnuts, hemp hearts and chia seeds provide lots of plant-based omega 3 goodness, the sunflower seeds and fortified mylk provide calcium and the banana and blueberries contribute two portions towards your fruit and vegetable intake for the day.
Oats are also a great source of soluble fibre and beta glucans, good for cholesterol lowering.
Superfood Porridge:
Ingredients
50g Oats
200ml Mylk such as soy, rice or almond
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1 Banana
Handful of Blueberries (fresh or frozen)
1 tbsp Chia Seeds
1 tbsp Sunflower Seeds
1 tsp Hemp Hearts
4 Walnut Halves
Method
- Soak the oats in the mylk with the cinnamon added overnight, or for 10 minutes in the morning. Alternatively cook the oats on the hob.
- Top with the sliced banana, chia seeds, walnuts, blueberries, sunflower seeds and hemp hearts.
